STORY

Born to a family of Garlean Engineers, it is fair to say that the Ingenia line was said to majestically prosper. As such was the case, as when Alamina Bas Ingenia and Marius Van Ingenia produced heirs, they produced six. The eldest, Adriane - was inspired with every word her father gave her. A stronger Garlemald as time passed, to unite the world itself under one grand linked banner of unity.So, as the family began to expand - Adriane taught her younger kin what her father had taught her. Garlean supremacy, Garlean expansion, the Empire spreading its tethers wide across Eorzea until the world itself was pure and war-free. Each child, more captivated than the last, registered themselves into the Garlean Empire as conscripts, soldiers and mechanics.Every single one, inspired to unify the entirety of the world. Every single one, brainwashed by her father’s hand, and in turn; her own.Yet she stayed blissfully ignorant to the Empire’s corruption, the Empire’s tyrannical duties, instead devoting her entire life to the cause until she wept, bled and sweat Garlemald. Every day, devoted to the homeland; with each stride of masterful engineering paving the way for a stronger Garlemald.When Cid Nan Garlond defected, she treated his name with disrespect, spat on his name - spat on his entirety - until she climbed the ladders, arriving just beneath his post; Praefectus Architectorum. There; she spent her life blossoming - taking incredible leaps of Magitek ingenuity. Though, over time she began to realize that when she returned home every other year, the family was growing smaller.First, the war took her brother Marcus - who was cut down at Baelsar’s Wall. Then her second brother, Dominic - slaughtered by the Warrior of Light in the invasion of Ala Mhigo. Then, her sister, Larissa - who sacrificed herself to save her squadron at the Ghimlyt Dark - only for her efforts to be remarkably in vain.Thus, after noting the way that Garlemald merely passed over the fact that her sister died for their cause; she began to realize just how flawed indeed her ‘beloved homeland’ was.Taking an old bandana from her teenage years - Adriane secured it around her brow; and did as Cid did - defecting into the nothingness. Away from lies, away from pain - away from everything she believed herself to be cheated of.For years; she sailed Eorzea - traveling from boat to boat across from Ilsabard, to Othard, to Ishgard.Despite travelling vastly, she spent most of her time in Othard - and, after selling her talents as a Gunbreaker and Machinist, came to be known as 'The Red Oni of the Othard Seas', shooting pirate captains dead and taking over their ships.She, eventually, however, ended up in Limsa Lominsa. There, she instead sold her talents as a Gunbreaker, acting as a bodyguard for ruffled-up pirates and disdainful admirals.There she met a man - S’vante Tia - a defector of his clan. To this man, she grew remarkably close - and even revealed her own defection to him. They enkindled a warm, close relationship - and eventually, the two fell in love.However, Adriane was called to Garlemald following the incidents with the Telephoroi. She demanded for S’vante Tia to stay in Limsa Lominsa, but he refused - and knowing he was capable enough as a fighter - Adriane finally relented. Taking an Ingenia airship, the two set flight to Garlemald.Upon arrival, she realized that the Telephoroi had splayed its corrupted tendrils across her homeland; turning her teenage brother Julian into a mindless beast. Spared by the quiet echo of the Garlean radio, Adriane watched in horror as they tore Alamina apart - and trembled as Marius began to turn. To save her toddler sister Gloria, Adriane took up her father’s gunblade; and slaughtered what was once her brother - and what was once her father. Turning her eyes upon S’vante , she watched as black wisps spilled around him, wrapping around his arms; legs - until he, too, turned.With pain in her heart, and Gunblade in hand - she struck him down, holding his malformed body in her arms until he spilled into dust.There, under the lazy haze of Home Upon The Horizon - while the snow spilled down upon her, Adriane wept. Cold - colder than any snow Garlemald had ever seen, with steel and dust in her arms.Silence echoed for hours, or so it felt - before a soft voice lulled over.“Addy,” a sniffle.Gloria. Still breathing, still clutching onto her mother’s pendant. Dropping her gunblade, Adriane rushed over - taking her in her arms and holding her close.Thus, she swore. Swore to her legacy, to her home - that she would forge a kinder world, a world where suffering would die off; and a brighter light would spill forth. No regrets, no hatred - only a brighter future, and a brighter people.Currently, Adriane leads the ‘Unitis Genii’, a small faction of Garlean scientists united under a banner of ‘creating a brighter, stronger future’.
